World’s Best Dad

I had a fun fold-out mini-album on the BasicGrey blog last week. I wanted to make something else than just an ordinary father’s day card for my husband this year. So I made a small accordion message, which is hopefully more of a keepsake than a regular card. If you want to see the whole thing, check it out here.

Vorige week stond een leuk vouwboekje van mij op het blog van BasicGrey. Ik wilde voor mijn man dit jaar eens een keer iets anders maken voor vaderdag dan een gewone kaart. Dus maakte ik een kleine accordeonboodschap, wat hopelijk meer iets om te bewaren is dan een gewone kaart. Als je graag het hele ding wil zien, ga hier dan eens een kijkje nemen.

Summer in the City | BasicGrey Hey You

BasicGrey’s Hey You collection is one of those super versatile collection, almost like one of the basics you just need to have. Softer colors and grid patterns are very present in this collection, which makes it perfect for backgrounds. But there are also some stronger colors and patterns, that can make your layout really stand out. * BasicGrey’s Hey You collection is één van die super veelzijdige collecties, bijna één van de basics die je gewoon in huis moet hebben. Zachtere kleuren en ruitjespapier zijn heel sterk aanwezig, wat ze perfect maakt voor achtergronden. Maar anderzijds zijn er ook een aantal sterkere kleuren en patronen, die een layout echt tot zijn recht kunnen laten komen.

This picture was taken on one of our trips to Ghent last year. Since Ghent is only about 30km away from here, a trip there is not that unusual. But going to the city in the summertime is just that tad bit special. I just love stolling around, watching the tourists, the boats, etc. * De foto nam ik vorig jaar op één van onze uitstapjes naar Gent. Aangezien Gent maar een 30-tal kilometer hiervandaan is, is een uitstapje daarheen niet zo uitzonderlijk. Maar een trip naar de stad in de zomer is toch net dat beetje speciaal. Heerlijk om rond te wandelen, naar de toeristen te kijken, de bootjes, enz.

I decided to go a bit different with this layout and focused on tags, Snippets, and so on to make a collage look. I picked out some of the items in a color scheme that I had in mind, and then started to arrange them onto my background. * Ik besloot een beetje anders te werk te gaan met deze layout en focuste me op labels, Snippets, enzoverder om een collage look te creëren. Ik koos een aantal items uit in het kleurschema dat ik in gedachten had, en begon ze dan op mijn achtergrond te schikken.

I really loved using some of those canvas border stickers on my page. For the title I used the matchbook with alpha stickers from the Fact & Fiction collection. * Ik vind die canvas border stickers prachtig om hier op mijn pagina te gebruiken. Voor de titel ging ik te rade bij de Matchbook  met alpha sticker van de Fact & Fiction collectie.

Take A Break

I’m sharing a card today, that I made quite a while back for a publication call. I didn’t get picked up back then, but I wanted to show you guys. I’m hoping that by showing sunny summer projects here on my blog, that I will be able to lure to sun out. You never know. * Een kaart vandaag, die ik een tijd geleden maakte voor een publication call. Ze werd toen niet uitgekozen, maar ik wilde ze jullie wel tonen. Ik hoop eigenlijk door zonnige zomerse kaarten te tonen, dat ik daar de zon kan mee lokken. Wie weet.

I think everything on this card is from BasicGrey’s Soleil collection, except for the stamp at the bottom. That’s one from myStamp BOX’ Road trip set. * Ik denk dat alle elementen op deze kaart van BasicGrey’s Soleil collection zijn, behalve de stempel onderaan. Die is van de Road Trip set van myStamp BOX.

Beautiful Boy | BasicGrey Hey Boy

This layout with BasicGrey Hey Boy collection, must be one of my favorites from the past few months. I absolutely love everything about it, not at the least that beautiful picture of my sweet little man. I might be biased, I know. BasicGrey’s Hey Boy collection has such fabulous colors and amazing designs. Up until now, everything I made with this collection, I absolutely love. * Deze layout met BasicGrey’s Hey Boy collectie is waarschijnlijk mijn favoriet van de voorbije maanden. Ik hou van al die leuke elementjes, niet in het minst van die mooie foto van mijn lieve kleine man. Maar ik ben misschien een beetje bevooroordeeld, ik weet het. BasicGrey’s Hey Boy collectie heeft heel mooie kleuren en prachtige designs. Tot nu toe vind ik mijn creaties met deze collectie allemaal heel erg leuk.

I started out with this charcoal colored numbers patterned paper for my background. I trimmed out a few strips of that fishtail paper, some longer, some smaller, and sew them down behind my picture. The reason they’re not glued down, is because I wanted to give them a little bit of dimension by folding them up a bit. * Ik startte met dit grijze nummertjespapier voor de achtergrond. Ik knipte een aantal stroken van dat vissenstaart papier, enkele langer, enkele korter, en naaide ze vast achter de foto. De reden waarom ze niet zijn vastgekleefd, is omdat ik ze graag wat dimensie wou geven door ze een beetje omhoog te vouwen.

I then adhered my picture down with dimensional adhesive to allow this really great texture on my page. In the upper left corner I added some more of that fishtail paper to mat my title. The stunning chipboard letters are also from the Hey Boy collection. The smaller letter stickers are BasicGrey’s Tin Types. I painted a layer of cream Mr. Huey’s spray ink overtop the white Tin Types, to make them match the creamy color of the patterned papers I was using. * Ik maakte dan mijn foto vast met 3D tape zodat die mooie textuur kon blijven bestaan. In de linker bovenhoek gebruikte ik meer van dat vissenstaart papier onder de titel. De prachtige chipboard letters zijn ook van de Hey Boy collectie. De kleinere letterstickertjes zijn Tin Types van BasicGrey. Ik schilderde de witte letters met een laagje crèmekleurige Mr. Huey’s spray inkt om ze beter in te passen bij het crème van het dessinpapier dat ik gebruikte.

I added a bunch of boyish embellishments and my layout was done. The stars and the ‘Totally Awesome’ sticker are from the Layered Stickers. I also added a few Canvas stickers and that fabulous chipboard trolley. * Nog enkele jongensachtige embellishments en mijn layout was klaar. De sterren en de ‘Totally Awesome’ stickers is van de Layered Stickers. Ik gebruikte ook enkele Canvas stickers en dat mooie chipboard karretje.

I’m sorry I have been MIA for a few days. I was fighting a cold. But I hope I have been able to make it up with today’s layout. Vroom | BasicGrey Bow Ties + a Video

This must be the most dimensional adhesive I’ve ever used on a layout – lol. When I was looking through the papers of BasicGrey’s Bow Ties collection, I immediately had a thing for the paper with all the cars. But instead of using it as it is, I decided to trim them out. I made a video of my process, I hope you’ll enjoy. * Ik heb waarschijnlijk nog nooit zoveel 3D tape gebruikt op een layout – lol. Toen ik door BasicGrey’s Bow Ties collectie keek, had ik meteen een boon voor het papier met de autootjes. Maar in plaats van het gewoon te gebruiken zoals het was, besloot ik ze uit te knippen. Ik maakte een video van mijn proces, ik hoop dat jullie het wat vinden.

When our little man was about to turn 1, we got our first toy cars in the house. With only a girl in the house, we had none. Nora never showed interest in anything like it. So we decided it was time to get him some cars. And since that very moment, he’s been showing us that he’s all boy. With a big interest in everything with wheels, he goes happily through life, calling out every vehicle he sees along his way. It’s rather funny. He’s not that talkative all in all, and his vocabulary is still rather narrow. But he knows the right word for every type of vehicle. * Toen onze kleine man bijna 1 werd, kochten we onze eerste speelgoedauto’s. Met alleen een meisje in huis, hadden we er geen enkele. Nora had er nooit interesse in getoond. Dus besloten we dat het tijd werd voor auto’s. En sindsdien toont hij dat hij helemaal een jongen is. Met een grote interesse voor alles op wielen, gaat hij vrolijk door het leven, roepend als hij een voertuig in het vizier krijgt. Het is eigenlijk wel grappig. Hij is niet zo’n grote prater, en zijn woordenschat is nog niet zo uitgebreid. Maar hij kent wel het juiste woord voor elk mogelijk bouwvoertuig.

RCC81 – Celebrations

This month’s challenge theme over on the Ribbon Carousel blog is Celebrations. Coudln’t be much easier than that, right. All you have to do to enter, is make a projects that fits the team and has a ‘spooled’ item on it. For this birthday card I chose to go with masking tape. * Het challenge thema van deze maand op het blog van Ribbon Carousel is Celebrations. Het kan niet veel eenvoudiger worden dan dat, niet. Het enige wat je moet doen om deel te nemen, is een project creëren, dat past bij het thema en een ‘gespoeld’ item heeft. Voor mijn verjaardagskaart koos ik dit keer voor masking tape.

I had this pen chipboard shape from BasicGrey in my stash, and I thought it would go well with this written sentiment from Penny Black. And so the theme of this card became clear. The background paper and the two tickets are from BasicGrey papers. The inksplatters are made with Studio Calico’s Pinstripe spray ink. * Ik had die chipboard pen van BasicGrey in mijn voorraad, en Ik dacht dat ze misschien wel leuk zou zijn samen met die geschreven wens van Penny Black.En zo werd het thema van deze kaart meteen duidelijk. Het achtergrond papier en de twee ticketjes zijn van BasicGrey papier. De inktspatten zijn gemaakt met Studio Calico’s Pinstripe spray inkt.

A Baby Gift Idea

I’ve had the privilege of making some of these name frames lately. They make the perfect present for the birth of a new baby. I wanted to share this soft girl’s frame with you today. * Ik had het geluk de laatste tijd enkele van deze naamkaders te mogen maken. Ze zijn het perfecte geschenk bij een geboorte. Ik wilde jullie vandaag graag dit zachte meisjesframe tonen.

I started out with one of these Ikea frames and modified the passe-partout and frame, so I ended up with a long, narrow, and deep frame. The name is cut out with my Cameo in white cardstock, which I then dressed up with these beautiful soft patterned papers from BasicGrey’s Fiction collection. Very girly and calm. * Ik ging van start met één van deze kaders van Ikea en pastte de passe-partout en kader wat aan, waardoor ik met een lange, smalle, en diepe kader eindigde. De naam sneed ik met mijn Cameo eerst in wit cardstock, en bracht er toen deze mooie softe dessinpapieren van BasicGrey’s Fiction collectie op aan. Helemaal meisjesachtig en rustig.

I love making these frames and I try to make them as personal and unique as possible. Whenever I can, I try to use the font of the birth announcement, and I try to accomodate my colors and embellishments to the baby room. * Ik maak dit soort kaders enorm graag en ik probeer er steeds ook iets zeer persoonlijks en unieks van te maken. Wanneer mogelijk, pas ik het lettertype aan aan het geboortekaartje, en ik probeer ook kleuren en versieringen aan te passen aan de babykamer.

Off She Goes | BasicGrey Hey Girl

Today’s layout with BasicGrey’s Hey Girl collection is all about our Nora, of course. There were a few papers of these collection, that I absolutely adored. And I incorporated some of those in this layout. * De layout van vandaag, met BasicGrey’s Hey Girl collectie, gaat natuurlijk helemaal over Nora. Er waren een aantal dessins in deze collectie, waar ik helemaal gek op was. En ik gebruikte enkele ervan hier in deze layout.

 Nora is the kind of girl, that takes on life at the safe side. While she’s always all words, she’s often not to keen on actually ‘doing’ new things. She needs her time to get used to everything and to think things over once or twice (or 10 times – lol). It took her several months before she finally took off with her bike. But once she did, she was so proud and unstoppable. * Nora is een meisje, dat doorgaans voor de veilige weg kiest. Hoewel ze steeds heel praatgraag is, is ze vaak niet zo’n fan om ook echt nieuwe dingen te gaan ‘doen’. Ze heeft tijd nodig om te wennen en om alles een keer of twee (of tien – lol) te overdenken. Ze deed er enkele maanden over voordat ze uiteindelijk fietste. Maar eens ze  weg was, was ze zo trots en niet meer te stoppen.

This layout is rather simple product-wise. Apart from the patterned papers, I used some chipboard shapes, and of course those amazing chipboard letters of the Hey Girl collection. * Deze layout is vrij eenvoudig op vlak van gebruikte producten. Naast het dessinpapier, gebruikte ik enkele chipboard shapes, en natuurlijk enkele van die prachtige letters van de Hey Girl collectie.

Currently we’re in a stage of learning a lot of new skills with Nora. She started taking swim lessons, her training wheels came off her big bike, etc. And once again, she needs her time. Which is frustrating at times, but it is so Nora at the same time. And I can only love her completely, just the way she is. * Momenteel gaat Nora weer door zo’n fase waarin ze een aantal nieuwe dingen moet leren. Ze begon met zwemlessen, de steunwieltjes van haar grote fiets gingen eraf, enz. En ook deze keer heeft ze tijd nodig. Wat soms frustrerend is, maar tegelijkertijd is het helemaal Nora. En ik kan niet anders dan helemaal van haar houden, zoals ze is.
