One Little Word Journal Part 1 | BasicGrey Hello

In my previous BasicGrey box, I also found this gorgeous 7×9 journal from the Hello collection. I thought it was perfect for my One Little Word class by Ali Edwards this year. I haven’t embellished the cover yet, but I’ve kept the inside of my journal up-to-date.

I used one of the journal insert as my title page for the album. I loved the colors and the camera image. For the title, my One Little Word for this year is ‘balance’, I used a Silhouette cut. I first used the negative cut to mist the word onto my insert, and then layered the white cardstock letters on top with dimensional adhesive.

The everyday flair is not from BasicGrey, the day stamps in the background on the other hand are. They from the Hello collection as well. The small letter stickers are from the Fact & Fiction collection.

On the back of the insert, the backside of the cover, I wrote the definition of the word ‘balance’. On the right hand page, I used a divided page protector for my January page.

I added one of those cute typewriter wood veneers by Studio Calico. The orange tag is the other part of the one on the front page, and is from a Hey Boy Snippet.

The divided page protector for January has 6 pockets, perfect for all the months of the year, 6 in the front, 6 in the back. Every month is stamped with that same stamp set from the Hello collection, embossed in white on the kraft solid paper from the Hey You collection. I punched some tabs and also added small stickers from the Hello collection to add some extra interest.

The second half of the year is in the backside of the pageprotector. On the right hand page there’s a smaller insert for March. For those of you familiar with the classes, my February assignment is collected on a Pinterest board and is still waiting to get printed and added to the journal.

For March I added the printables handed out by Ali Edwards in the classroom. I cut the page in half and glued them back to back on a piece of patterned paper from the Hey You collection. To the top of the page, I added a strip of masking tape, in which I punched holes.

 

My March assignment is still blank, as I find it very hard to come up with an action for my word, but I’m working on it.

On the back of the March page I added the speech bubble stamp and the month.

Coming soon

I’m just popping in today to let you all in on something that I’ve been working on for the last few days. I have a little series prepared for you for the month of December. * Ik spring vlug even binnen om jullie te laten weten waar ik de voorbije dagen zoal heb aan gewerkt. Ik heb een reeks voor jullie gemaakt voor de maand december.

Starting the 1st of December I’ll bring you a daily holiday related post. Mostly with projects, sometimes even a video. Cards, layouts, decor and gift items. And not the least, a December Daily album. Be ready to get inspired. More on all of that very soon of course (December is just around the corner). But here’s a little sneak of what to expect. * Vanaf 1 december breng ik jullie dagelijks een feestelijke post. Meestal met projecten, soms zelfs met een video. Kaarten, layours, decoratie- en cadeau-items. En niet in het minst mijn December Daily album. Hou jullie klaar om een pak inspiratie op te doen. Meer hierover volgt natuurlijk al snel (het is al bijna december). Maar alvast een klein voorproefje van wat jullie kunnen verwachten.

It’ll be a fun filled month. Hope you’ll stop by every now and then. * Het wordt een spetterende maand. Ik hoop dat jullie af en toe langs komen.

Family Trip

One of the new product myStamp BOX is launching on this CHA edition are some good quality shaped chipboard albums. The DT was lucky enough to get their hands on some of these and had a chance to play. * Eén van de nieuwe producten die myStamp BOX op deze editie van CHA zal voorstellen zijn chipboard mini-albums van zeer goede kwaliteit. Het DT had het geluk deze al in handen te krijgen en ze dus ook al een keertje uit te proberen. 

There are various shapes, I chose to work with this suitcase shaped album since I was doing a mini on our family vacation last year. I worked with Note To Self patterned papers and element stickers from Echo Park and pulled out two myStamp BOX stamp sets (Road Trip and Pixel Perfect) that matched the album and the theme very well. * Er zijn verschillende vormen te verkrijgen, ik koos om met de reiskoffer aan de slag te gaan aangezien ik een album van onze familievakantie van vorig jaar wou maken. Ik werkte met het Note To Self dessinpapier (en stickers) van Echo Park en twee myStamp BOX stempelsets (Road Trip en Pixel Perfect), die goed bij het album en het thema pasten.

So hold on to your pants, here’s a photo heavy post coming up! On the cover I used the ‘family’ element sticker from Echo Park and stamped the word ‘trip’ from the Road Trip set underneath. The smaller alphas are American Crafts and were the perfect color to match the patterned papers. * Dus, hou jullie vast, hier komt een post met heel veel foto’s! Op de cover gebruikte ik de ‘family’ element sticker van Echo Park en stempelde het woord ‘trip’ van de Road Trip set eronder. De kleinere letterstickertjes zijn van American Crafts en pasten qua kleur goed bij het dessinpapier.

There was a children’s farm at our vacation resort, which Nora enjoyed thoroughly. She adored the animals and despite my expectations really liked petting the goats. * Er was een kinderboerderij in ons vakantiepark, waar Nora met volle teugen van genoot. Ondanks mijn verwachtingen durfde ze ook de geitjes te aaien.

The granddads having a bit of fishing fun, that is when they didn’t get caught in the trees, like a certain grandpa accomplished – lol. The arrow from the Road Trip set and the cute camera stamp from Pixel Perfect are two of the elements that come back several times throughout this mini. * De opa’s genietend van een vispartijtje, tenminste als ze niet verstrikt raakten in de bomen, zoals een bepaalde opa voor elkaar kreeg – lol. De pijl van de Road Trip set en het cameraatje van de Pixel Perfect set zijn twee van de elementen die meerdere keren terugkomen doorheen dit album.

I cut a notecard out of one of the patterned papers and stamped the ‘pixel perfect’ in Scattered Straw distress ink onto it. Amazing to see how much Tuur had changed over the last few months. * Ik sneed een notecard los van één van de papieren en stempelde de ‘pixel perfect’ in Scattered Straw distress inkt erop. Niet te geloven hoe Tuur in die paar maanden veranderd is.

The spirographic patterned paper that I also used for the covers, is one of my favorites. I love its soft tones and the design elements. I used these pictures on this layout for myStamps BOX some time ago, but I thought they needed a place in this mini too. * Het spirografische patroonpapier, dat ik ook voor de covers gebruikte, is één van mijn favorieten. De foto’s hierboven gebruikte ik ook op deze layout voor myStamp BOX een tijd geleden, maar ik vond dat ze ook in deze mini een plaatsje hoorden te krijgen.

The Road Trip set also has a tag stamp, which I used here on the tags tucked underneath the picture of Nora and her granddad. * De Road Trip set heeft ook een labelstempeltje, dat ik hier gebruikte voor de labels die onder de foto van Nora met haar opa geschoven zijn.

And last but not least, the back cover of the album. I kept this very simple, with just the destination written there. * En tenslotte de achterzijde van het album. Ik hield deze heel eenvoudig met enkel de bestemming erop vermeld.

Happy Little Moments

This is a project I’m still working on. Well, actually, I just started it. A couple weeks back Studio Calico offered an altered book class and since I was so curious about the altering part, I took it. A week or two ago I started my book. * Dit is een project, waar ik nog steeds aan werk op dit moment. Wel, eigenlijk ben ik er nog maar pas mee gestart. Enkele weken geleden bood Studio Calico een altered book les aan en aangezien ik nogal nieuwsgierig was naar het ‘altered’ gedeelte, volgde ik de les. Een week of twee geleden begon ik aan mijn boek.

I only have the front cover to share today. As I’ve said before it’s still a work in progress, so the inside pages I will show once I’ve finished the project. This is something I do just for fun and will be finished in between other projects, but I already love how the cover turned out. * Ik kan vandaag nog maar alleen de cover tonen. Zoals ik al zei, ben ik nog niet klaar, dus de pagina’s van mijn album zal ik tonen als het boek klaar is. Dit is iets waar ik tussendoor aan werk en enkel voor de fun, maar ik vind dat de cover al heel mooi is geworden.

Letters of Love

Last week I had this fun mini-album up on the Basic Grey blog in the Cupid Countdown series. I made this album as a project just for me (and my family) and straight from the heart. The Kissing Booth papers really spoke to me and made me itch to do a mini-album. In my head this grew out to an album which houses a ‘letter of love’ to each member of our family in a kraft envelope. In these letters I tell them why I love them and what my hopes and dreams are for their future and our relationship in the future. Head over here to see more of this mini.

Vorige week kon je dit leuke mini-album van me zien op het blog van Basic Grey in hun Cupid Countdown serie. Ik maakte dit album als een project voor mezelf (en mijn familie) en vanuit het hart. De Kissing Booth papers trokken me heel erg aan en nodigden uit om een mini-album te maken. In mijn hoofd groeide dit uit tot een album waarin een ‘letter of love’ zit in een kraft envelop voor elk lid van mijn gezin. In deze brieven schrijf ik hen waarom ik hen graag zie, en wat mijn dromen en verwachtingen zijn voor hun toekomst en onze toekomstige relatie. Picadilly mini-album

Back in August, my husband made a series of pictures from Tuur, of which I really wanted to make a layout. But when I eventually started to look at all of them, I found it so hard to select just one or two. I couldn’t resist to those sweet, smiling faces. So I chose more pictures and decided to make a mini-album of this one event. * In augustus maakte mijn man een reeks foto’s van tuur, waar ik graag een layout wilde van maken. Maar toen ik uiteindelijk foto’s wou beginnen uitzoeken, vond ik het zo moeilijk om er slechts één of twee uit te kiezen. Ik kon dat lieve lachebekje gewoon niet weerstaan. Dus koos ik meerdere foto’s uit en besloot ik een mini-album te gaan maken.

I first made a booklet out of white cardstock, which I stitched together with my sewing machine. And then I started adding patterned papers, pictures and embellishments. Some of the pages are smaller then others. Too small for my pictures, but they leave room for journaling. And they carry most of the embellishing. Here are some pages. * Ik maakte eerste een boekje van wit papier, dat ik samen stikte met mijn naaimachine. Nadien begon ik dessinpapier, foto’s en versieringen toe te voegen. Sommige pagina’s zijn wat kleiner, te klein voor mijn foto’s, maar die laten dan wel ruimte om enkele dingen neer te pennen. En ze dragen ook het meeste van de embellishments. Hier zijn enkele pagina’s.

The backside has a little tag with a rub-on and the date on it. I covered the spine with some masking tape. The album closes with some twine wrapped around one of those gorgeous Picadilly wooden buttons. * Op de achterzijde staat een klein label met een rub-on en de datum gestempeld. De rug heb ik met masking tape bekleefd. Het boekje sluit met wat koord rond één van die mooie Picadilly houten knopen gedraaid.

Photo-A-Day journal

I thought to myself, ‘if I’m going to do this Photo-A-Day thing, I might as well do it good’. So I made myself this Photo-A-Day journal the other day, so I can write down a few notes about the photo of the day. I would love it if I can look back on january, 13th, one year from now (or even more) and read a little something about todays’ day and todays’ picture. * Ik dacht bij mezelf, ‘als ik me engageer voor dit Photo-A-Day project, kan ik het evengoed meteen goed doen’. Dus maakte ik mezelf een Photo-A-Day dagboek, zodat een paar zinnen kan neerkrabbelen over een foto of een dag. Ik zou het heel fijn vinden om op 13 januari volgend jaar (of zelfs nog verder), te kunnen terugkijken en iets te kunnen lezen over de dag van vandaag of de foto van vandaag. 

I kept the cover really simple and flat, but I think I might add a camera to it somehow (stamp or sticker). Here’s a peek at the inside of the cover. * Ik hield de cover heel eenvoudig en vooral ook plat, maar ik denk dat ik misschien toch nog een fototoestel zal toevoegen (met stempel of sticker). Hier is een kijkje aan de binnenzijde van de cover.

The inside pages will pretty random. I have some white cardstock pages, which were stamped with the Grid pattern stamp from Studio Calico. I have some kraft ones. And I suppose along the way I will have some journaling jotted down on another piece of paper here or there as well. That’s why I chose to use rings to bind this booklet. If necessary I can add pages as much as and in any form I want. There’s supposed to be a page per week, but I can imagine some weeks I’ll write more and maybe on some occasions I will add an extra page about a certain event. * De pagina’s in het boek zullen een beetje een allegaartje worden. Ik heb een aantal witte pagina’s, bestempeld met de Grid pattern stempel van Studio Calico gemaakt. Ik heb ook een aantal kraft pagina’s. En ik veronderstel dat ik ergens onderweg ook wel af en toe eens iets zal neerkrabbelen op één of ander stukje papier, wat ik op dat moment bij de hand heb. Daarom koos ik dit boekje ook met ringen te gaan binden, zodat ik zoveel pagina’s als nodig kan bijvoegen in om het even welk formaat. Het is de bedoeling dat ik een paginazijde per week ga gebruiken, maar ik kan me voorstellen dat ik sommige weken misschien meer zal schrijven, of misschien eens een extra blaadje over een bepaalde gebeurtenis zal maken.

The inside pages are not embellished yet, but I plan on adding some stamping, patterned paper, masking tape, die-cut or tag of some sort along the way, when I’m actually writing on that particular page. * De pagina’s van het boek zijn op dit moment nog niet echt bewerkt. Ik zal tijdens dit avontuur nog wel stempels, dessinpapier, masking tape, die-cuts of labels gebruiken, terwijl ik de pagina aan het vullen ben.

About the project: I might tell you, even at this point allready, that this is not going to be an easy task to maintain this for an entire year. Day 1 was easy, week 1 was challenging at times, week 2 … oi – lol. Will share more on sunday. My Minibook

This is a little project I have been working off and on for the last week. It’s a small minibook, for myself. And It feels nice to make something just for me. I intend to use this one to write down titles and quotes for scrapbook layouts. I often have a hard time finding the right words for journaling on my work, but especially struggle to give my layouts a striking and catchy title. That’s were this little book comes in. When I’m blogsurfing I often think ‘oh, that’s a clever title’ or ‘oh, that’s well put’. But then I forget all about it again. This little book should help me to jot down things that are inspirational to me when it comes to titles and quotes. – Een klein projectje waar ik de laatste week tussendoor aan heb gewerkt. Het is een klein boekje, voor mezelf. Leuk om ook wel eens iets voor mezelf te maken. De bedoeling is dit te gaan gebruiken om titels en quotes in te schrijven. Ik vind het vaak niet zo eenvoudig om de juiste woorden te vinden om het verhaal bij een layout te schrijven of om een opvallende titel te vinden. Ik hoop dat dit boekje daar een oplossing voor biedt. Als ik in blogland aan het surfen ben, denk ik vaak ‘oh, dat is goed gezegd’ of ‘oh, die titel is goed’. Maar dan vergeet ik dat ook weer. Dit kleine boekje zou me moeten helpen om dingetjes neer te krabbelen, die me inspireren als het op titels en quotes aankomt.

I had a lot of fun putting this together. Here’s the front cover. Clean and simple, not too bulky, so it doesn’t get in the way for writing things down. But showcasing all of my current favorites in a way. My Ali Edwards stamps, my Studio Calico Natalee Alphabet Stamps, some fabulous letter stickers also by Studio Calico, and some splashes of spray inks. - Het was leuk om dit te maken. Hier zie je de cover. Clean en eenvoudig, niet te veel lagen, zodat het niet in de weg zit om iets neer te schrijven. Maar tegelijkertijd bevat dit kleine blaadje een stukje van al mijn huidige favoriete producten. Mijn Ali Edwards stempels, mijn Studio Calico Natalee Alfabet stempels, wat mooie letterstickers ook van Studio Calico, en enkele spatten spray inkt.

For the inside pages, I used a lot of stamps to create journaling spaces. Needless to say there are numerous Ali Edwards stamps used. There are also some pages made out of patterned papers and transparancies. Everything with a lot of room to write and collect. Since the book is put together with a ring, it will be easy to add new pages if I manage to fill them all. – Voor de pagina’s binnenin gebruikte ik heel wat stempels om plaatsjes te creëren om dingen neer te schrijven. Het hoeft niet gezegd te worden dat ik alweer een groot aantal Ali Edwards stempels gebruikte. Er zijn ook enkele pagina’s gemaakt van dessinpapier, en enkele transparanten. Aangezien het boekje met een ring wordt gebonden, moet het eenvoudig zijn om in de toekomst pagina’s bij te voegen, als ik erin slaag het helemaal vol te schrijven.

Now there has to be the taking the plunge to actually write something down in there. I would hate to mess it up. But then again, every page can easily be replaced by a new one. – Nu nog dit boekje effectief ook durven gebruiken. Ik zou het niet graag verknoeien. Maar anderzijds  kan iedere pagina gemakkelijk weer vervangen worden door een nieuwe.
