Last Tuesday I had a few pillow boxes up on the BasicGrey blog. It was a Mother’s Day packaging idea, but of course these boxes can be made for pretty much any occasion. They’re perfect to hold gift cards or small gifts. Go and check them out!

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

Merry Christmas to all of you!

My husband is still not really on the mend, so we’re taking things very easy today. We took a late start this morning, with a nice breakfast with the kids. And this evening we’ll have a small dinner just the 4 of us. We don’t do presents on Christmas. Since Sinterklaas stops by for our kids on December 6th, Santa doesn’t make it’s appearance in our house. But we do have presents on New Year’s.

I have something special for you today. I made this canvas the other day. And also taped my process while doing so. Now I have to say, this was my first time I made a mixed media canvas. So please don’t see this as a tutorial kind of video. Most of the time I had no clue what I was doing. I made a couple of obvious mistakes as well, things I would do different if I did it again. But I had a lot of fun with it, and that’s what it’s all about eventually, right?!

myStamp BOX Treat Box

Today is group post day over on the myStamp BOX blog and for this month’s theme we chose to go for some holiday related food projects. A very broad theme, this is what I made. I was planning on making some of these treat boxes to take them with us as hostess gifts. * Vandaag is er een groepspost op het blog van myStamp BOX. En voor het thema voor deze maand kozen we iets te gaan doen met eten. Ruime keuze dus, dit is wat ik maakte. Ik was van plan een aantal van deze te gaan maken om mee te nemen voor mijn gastheer en gastvrouw.

I started out with a chipboard box, that you usually can find in craft stores. I painted it a couple of layers with regular white acrylic paint. And let it dry. I made a video for you of my treat box. Enjoy!! * Ik begon met een kartonnen doosje, dat je doorgaans wel in hobbywinkels vindt. Ik schilderde het een paar laagjes met gewone witte acrylverf en liet het drogen. Hier is een video van het doosje. Geniet ervan!!

I’m just popping in today to let you all in on something that I’ve been working on for the last few days. I have a little series prepared for you for the month of December. * Ik spring vlug even binnen om jullie te laten weten waar ik de voorbije dagen zoal heb aan gewerkt. Ik heb een reeks voor jullie gemaakt voor de maand december.

Starting the 1st of December I’ll bring you a daily holiday related post. Mostly with projects, sometimes even a video. Cards, layouts, decor and gift items. And not the least, a December Daily album. Be ready to get inspired. More on all of that very soon of course (December is just around the corner). But here’s a little sneak of what to expect. * Vanaf 1 december breng ik jullie dagelijks een feestelijke post. Meestal met projecten, soms zelfs met een video. Kaarten, layours, decoratie- en cadeau-items. En niet in het minst mijn December Daily album. Hou jullie klaar om een pak inspiratie op te doen. Meer hierover volgt natuurlijk al snel (het is al bijna december). Maar alvast een klein voorproefje van wat jullie kunnen verwachten.

Ribbon Carousel Spotlight Tutorial | Gift wrapping

Time for a new Ribbon Carousel spotlight Tutorial. And since July and August are our most busy birthday months in the family I chose to do some gift wrapping. Birthday celebration

Today Nora had her birthday celebration at school. (She has her birthday during summer break, so gets celebrated at the end of the school year.) Yesterday at lunch time, her teacher informed me about this little detail and asked if that was going to be okay. I freaked there, for a small second, and then agreed. So I shifted into fifth gear yesterday afternoon and evening and got to shopping, baking, crafting, wrapping, and so on. This is what I ended up with. * Nora vierde vandaag haar verjaardag op school. (Ze verjaart tijdens de vakantie en wordt dus op het einde van het schooljaar gevierd.) Gisterenmiddag bracht haar juf mij op de hoogte van dit kleine detail, en vroeg of het goed was. Ik panikeerde heel even, maar ging toen akkoord. Dus gisterennamiddag en -avond schakelde ik even een versnelling hoger en ging aan het shoppen, bakken, knutselen, inpakken, enz. Dit is het resultaat.

I made a bunch of chocolate cakes and these fast and fabulous cake toppers. I had to go with a rather quick and easy design since everything had to be made in just one afternoon. The stamped images are all colored with pencils. * Ik maakte een hoop chocoladecakejes en deze snelle, maar mooie cake toppers. Ik moest wel voor een snel en eenvoudig ontwerp kiezen aangezien alles in een namiddag diende te worden gemaakt. De gestempelde figuurtjes zijn ingekleurd met potloden.

And each of the kids got one of these little felt cuties. These handmade little animals are made by my friend Christel, who I got to know at Ratteljee and is making all kinds of gorgeous things with felt. I was so lucky that she had a bunch of these on hand. The kids (and also Nora’s teacher) loved them. * En elk van de kindjes kreeg één van deze vilten schatjes. Deze handgemaakte diertjes zijn gemaakt door Christel, die ik op Ratteljee leerde kennen en allerlei mooie dingetjes met vilt maakt. Ik had geluk dat ze er nog een aantal van deze voorhanden had. De klasgenootjes van Nora (en ook haar juf) vonden ze super.

Nora brought a friend home from school for the occasion of her celebration, for a sleepover. She was thrilled and so proud to walk all the way home with her stroller. * Nora bracht bij deze gelegenheid ook een vriend mee naar huis van school, voor een logeerpartijtje. Ze was wildenthousiast en zo trots om ermee met de buggy naar huis te wandelen.

We had a great time with Mouse. Nora was completely exhausted by the end of the day. * We hadden een fijne dag met Muis. Nora was helemaal uitgeteld vanavond.

Happy Little Moments

This is a project I’m still working on. Well, actually, I just started it. A couple weeks back Studio Calico offered an altered book class and since I was so curious about the altering part, I took it. A week or two ago I started my book. * Dit is een project, waar ik nog steeds aan werk op dit moment. Wel, eigenlijk ben ik er nog maar pas mee gestart. Enkele weken geleden bood Studio Calico een altered book les aan en aangezien ik nogal nieuwsgierig was naar het ‘altered’ gedeelte, volgde ik de les. Een week of twee geleden begon ik aan mijn boek.

I only have the front cover to share today. As I’ve said before it’s still a work in progress, so the inside pages I will show once I’ve finished the project. This is something I do just for fun and will be finished in between other projects, but I already love how the cover turned out. * Ik kan vandaag nog maar alleen de cover tonen. Zoals ik al zei, ben ik nog niet klaar, dus de pagina’s van mijn album zal ik tonen als het boek klaar is. Dit is iets waar ik tussendoor aan werk en enkel voor de fun, maar ik vind dat de cover al heel mooi is geworden.

One collection, two projects

Two of my projects, made with one and the same collection, were up on the Basic Grey blog last week. I made this sweet layout of Nora (of which you might have seen a little sneak on my hobby fair display) with the Kissing Booth collection. * Twee van mijn projecten, gemaakt met één en dezelfde collectie, stonden vorige week op het Basic Grey blog. Ik maakte deze layout van Nora (waarvan je misschien al een glimp kon zien op mijn foto’s van de hobbybeurs) met de Kissing Booth collectie.

And also made this garland while I had all my supplies out. This one is hanging up in Nora’s room. She adores it. * En ik maakte ook deze slinger terwijl al mijn spullen nog op mijn bureau lagen. Deze hangt nu in Nora’s kamer. Ze vind hem prachtig.

And here is what I did with Canvas Corp and myStamp BOX’s products. I made this stunning, but clean and simple holiday garland. I chose not to go crazy with inks and mists etc., but to keep the gorgeous canvas natural and ‘spotless’. * En hier is wat ik deed met de Canvas Corp en myStamp BOX producten. Ik maakte deze prachtige, maar zeer eenvoudige slinger voor de feestdagen. Ik koos ervoor om niet los te gaan met inkt en spraymist, enz., maar om het prachtige canvas naturel en ‘proper’ te houden. 

All the canvas elements were nice and thick double layered, which,I have to admit, I cut apart so to get the most out of this wonderful product. This way I could use just one layer for this project and save the rest for later, probably for some out of control misting, inking and painting – lol. * Alle canvas elementen waren prachtig, dik en dubbel lagig, maar die heb ik uit elkaar gehaald om gewoon meer van dit canvas te kunnen gebruiken. Op die manier kon ik één laag gebruiken voor dit project en de rest gewoon voor later bewaren, waarschijnlijk voor wat losgeslagen misten, schilderen en beïnken – lol.

I started my project with this piece de résistance. The rest of the garland was build around this star. I first sew around the edges of the star with red embroidery thread and then placed the button onto the canvas. The small star was cut out of some corrugated cardboard from a shipping box. Finally I added the sentiment from the HoHoHo stampset by myStamp BOX. * Ik startte mijn project met dit prachtexemplaar. De rest van de slinger werd rondom deze ster gebouwd. Ik naaide eerst met rood borduurgaren rond de randen en plaatste dan de knopen op het canvas.De kleine ster knipte ik uit wat golfkarton van een doos. Tenslotte zette ik er nog een wens van de HoHoHo stempelset van myStamp BOX op.

Again a sentiment from the HoHoHo set, stamped on a small tag. – Opnieuw een wens van de HoHoHo set, gestempeld op een klein label. 

The clothespins and divine cord are also from Canvas Corp. * Ook de wasspeldjes en het mooie koord zijn van Canvas Corp.One of my favorites. – Eén van mijn favorieten.

This might seem a bit out of place in this garland, but I also wanted to add a card to show off the gorgeous ATC’s and cards/cardstock Canvas Corp is offering. * Dit laatste element lijkt misschien een beetje een vreemde eend in het rijtje, maar ik wilde ook een kaart toevoegen om de prachtige ATC’s en kaarten/cardstock van Canvas Corp te laten zien.

Butterfly Garland

As promised, a few pictures of the butterflies I made for N.’s birthday. It was a bit of a challenge to photograph this. – Zoals beloofd, een paar foto’s van de vlinders die ik voor N.’s verjaardag maakte. Het werd nogal een uitdaging om dit vast te leggen op de gevoelige plaat.

I started out by making a template for the butterfly, which I then drew on my fabric. This project is about 100% hand-sewn. Since this was a gift for a 3-year-old girl, the butterflies have an awful lot of glitter -lol. – Ik ben eerst begonnen met een vlindermal te maken om op mijn stof te kunnen tekenen. Dit projectje is bijna 100% met de hand genaaid. Aangezien het een cadeau was voor een 3-jarig meisje, hebben de vlinders afgrijselijk veel glitter gekregen – lol.

After finishing the butterflies, I took a long piece of ribbon and stitched a butterfly at both the ends. I then cut a few strips of ribbon, attached a butterfly to each of them and secured this somewhere in the middle of the longer ribbon. – Nadat de vlinders afgewerkt waren, nam ik een lang stuk lint en naaide aan beide uiteinden een vlinder vast. Daarna knipte is een aantal stukjes lint af, maakte aan ieder stuk een vlinder vast, en naaide dit dan ergens in het midden van het lange lint vast.

We hung the garland at the doorframe, with the butterflies hanging off of the sides and in the doorway, with their embellished side facing down. So when N. enters her room and looks up, she sees the glittered butterflies. I am just a newbie at this sewing thing, so no doubt this project could have been taken to a whole different level if I had just known what I was doing – ha! – We hingen de slinger aan het deurframe van Nora’s deur. De vlinders hangen aan beide zijden van de deur en in het deurgat, met hun versierde kant naar beneden. So kan N., wanneer ze haar kamer binnenkomt en omhoog kijkt, de vlinders met hun glitter zien. Ik ben maar een nieuweling op vlak van naaien. Dus dit project had er zonder twijfel helemaal anders kunnen uitzien, als ik beter had geweten wat ik aan het doen was – ha!
